Eat It Later by Michael Alvear Book Feature

Title: Eat It Later
Author: Michael Alvear
Release Date: August 4, 2015
Publisher: Woodpecker Media
Genre: Diet/Wellness
Format: Ebook/Paperback

“A wellness strategy that changes the way you think about food. Alvear’s writing style and the structure of his book make for an easy read and, more importantly, easy use in daily life.” -- Kirkus Reviews

You Don’t Need A Diet. You Need An Eating Strategy. Use these proven psychological methods to reduce cravings, eliminate overeating, “shrink” your stomach and help you eat in moderation--without feeling deprived.

  • Cut Up To 90% Of Your Snacking Without Feeling Cheated.  Use Habituation and Systematic Desensitization to dramatically cut how much you eat without feeling deprived. Psychologists use these treatments to get people off Vicodin and Xanax. Imagine how well they work on chips and cookies.

  • Control Your Cravings With Delayed Gratification Techniques That Teach Discipline Without Suffering.  Based on famed psychologist Walter Mischel’s “Marshmallow” experiments, they will painlessly help you master self-control.

  • Eat Healthier Without Forcing Yourself To Eat What You Don’t Like.  Use the “Nutrilicious” concept to make healthier choices without sacrificing taste or preferences. This book is about how I lost 14 pounds and 2 waist sizes and kept it off for 25 years without ever going on a diet. Inspired by Walter Mischel’s iconic The Marshmallow Test, Eat It Later is a science-based, psychological approach to developing weight-reducing eating habits. It chronicles how I did it and lays out a plan for how you can too.

Learn Techniques For Eating Less Without Feeling Deprived.  Today, I don't eat three Oreos at a sitting and force myself from the table, biting my fist and longing for the 16 I used to eat. I am as satisfied with three as I used to be with 16. Habituation, desensitization and delayed gratification techniques stopped my mindless eating and painlessly “shrank” my stomach so that I could eat much smaller portions without feeling cheated or deprived. Like most people, I thought, “eating in moderation” was code for “you’ll never feel full again.” I thought portion control meant pain management. I thought volume reduction meant perpetual dissatisfaction. I was wrong. If you make the kind of tiny, systematic reductions I show you in this book, your body will adapt to the new normal without any pain or suffering.

Learn The Keys To Self-Control.  You are not going to get a list of foods to eat or avoid. Or recipes or meal suggestions. I am not going to ask you to count calories, fat, carbs or sugar. I am simply going to show you how to permanently change the amount of food you eat. And to do it with strategies identified by researchers and psychologists as the keys to self-control—habituation, systematic desensitization and delayed gratification techniques.

Ever Finish A Bagel And Say, “Why Did I Eat It–I Wasn’t That Hungry?”  You do that because you don’t have an intuitive eating system that separates no/low cravings from high cravings. Eat It Later shows you mindful eating techniques that take about 3 seconds to separate low from medium and high cravings.

Say Goodbye To Will Power Fatigue.  Diets force you to white-knuckle your way through 5-alarm cravingsand leave the table feeling hungry and deprived. But with habituation, desensitization and delayed gratification techniques you will never experience will power fatigue because there is nothing to be fatigued about—you will have what you like but through an intuitive eating mindset.

Title: The Uncommon Cure
Author: T. Agvanian
Publisher: iUniverse
Genre: Cultural Heritage
Format: Ebook/Paperback

The past haunts you and the future terrifies you. What do you do, seek redemption, sink into madness, or eat? These stories follow the lives of women trying to find emotional peace through food, fantasy, or virtue. The urge for liberation from pain drives them to face conflicts arising from the desire for relief.

Eva has been carrying a terrible secret from the Second World War in Ukraine. As she approaches the end of her life, she wishes to eat herself into a diabetic coma to escape the guilt. Unfortunately, her daughter-in-law feels it is her Hippocratic duty to save Eva from gastronomic excess. While each comes at the other from complex, very different life experiences, peaceful intentions inevitably end in war.

Long ago, Sarah gave up living on the outside. Now in an attempt to insulate herself from painful events, she tries to dream an alternative reality into existence.

After Magnolia commits the ultimate sin and realizes there will be no happy ending, she must somehow find clarity and peace. As a narrator of a sleepy American suburb comically recounts a squirrel’s demise, she soon discovers that the joke may be on her. The Uncommon Cure shares a novella and three short stories that intertwine the struggles of several female characters as they attempt to cure their ills with unorthodox solutions.

The Bosom of Abraham by Beatrice Blue Pipe Book Feature

Title: The Bosom of Abraham
Author: Beatrice Blue Pipe
Publisher: iUniverse
Pages: 90
Genre: Historical Biography
Format: Kindle/Paperback

As a child, Beatrice Blue Pipe was confused and hurt by what her teachers told her.

As a student, her teachers at Canada’s Christian-administered residential school system taught that God hated Canada’s First Peoples and First Nations. From Blue Pipe’s perspective, she was condemned. As she grew, the hateful lessons of her youth slowly consumed her, and like too many others, she attempted to silence those demons with alcohol and thoughts of suicide.

But as an adult, she is now a powerful advocate for her culture and dignity. By exploring the devastating impact of the Canadian government’s educational system on the minds and spirits of First Nation children, Beatrice aims to expose the negative impact these multifaceted, inhuman legislative polices have had on her community. Tragically, these practices continue to have a grave, detrimental impact on the well-being of First Nations people.

In The Bosom of Abraham, she celebrates the incredibly resilient First People. Canada’s systematic and multigenerational attempt to eradicate their cultural ceremonies and languages failed. The ancient cultural knowledge and strength of First Nations people survives today, which ensures the survival of future generations. The Bosom of Abraham is the story of Beatrice’s journey as a child, a daughter and a student—who resists the efforts of the system to crush her—into that of a woman, a warrior and a leader, in the effort to celebrate, protect and preserve her cultural and personal heritage.

A certified life-skills coach, she advocates for cultural programming, as well as the preservation and restoration of the Nakoda language and culture. Links to YouTube videos show one dancer in the group demonstrating each dance. The dances are original, folk-inspired, and contemporary, and they focus on one of the few ways anyone and everyone can engage in movement while simultaneously having fun and interacting with others.

The online videos visually show how to perform the moves. The written choreography for each dance is presented in Dancing for Fun to match the dance exactly with the music. In this guide, the Greathouses offer the opportunity to learn to dance as easily as possible and have fun at the same time.

“The titles of these books say it all: Fun! The piano melodies and dances in these books can be done with a wide variety of skill levels and group sizes.” —Michael Mecham, American Dance Magazine

The Greatest Love of All by Christine Amsden, author of Madison's Song

Title: Madison's Song
Author: Christine Amsden
Publisher: Twilight Times Books
Pages: 275
Genre: Paranormal Fiction
Format: Kindle

Her voice is enchanting; his soul is black...

Madison Carter has been terrified of Scott Lee since the night he saved her from an evil sorcerer – then melted into a man-eating monster before her eyes. The werewolf is a slave to the moon, but Madison's nightmares are not.

Despite her fears, when Madison's brother, Clinton, is bitten by a werewolf, she knows there is only one man who can help. A man who frightens her all the more because even in her nightmares, he also thrills her.

Together for the first time since that terrible night, Scott and Madison drive to Clinton's home only to discover that he's vanished! Frantic now, Madison must overcome her fears and uncover hidden strengths if she hopes to save him. And she's not the only one fighting inner demons. Scott's are literal, and they have him convinced that he will never deserve the woman he loves.

Praise for Cassie Scot: ParaNormal Detective "In this entertaining series opener, Amsden (The Immortality Virus) introduces readers to the eponymous Cassie, a decidedly mundane member of a magical family. ...Readers will enjoy Cassie's fish-out-of-water struggles as she fights magical threats with little more than experience and bravado." ~ Publishers Weekly

The Greatest Love of All

I spent a lot of time listening to the song “The Greatest Love of All” as I wrote my newest novel, Madison's Song. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the tune – on the one hand, learning to love yourself is the greatest love of all. But I disagree that it is “easy to achieve,” at least not for all of us.

Neither the title character, Madison, nor the romantic hero, Scott, love themselves at the start of this book. Madison is an unlikely heroine – shy and plump, with low self-esteem, she's been betrayed left and right but still comes back fighting when someone she loves is threatened. Scott, meanwhile, fights an inner demon (a literal one – a werewolf) and doesn't believe he deserves the woman he loves.

A lot stands in the way of a relationship between Madison and Scott, but most of all, I think, is the fact that neither one of them believes they are fundamentally lovable.

I've often thought that to really be able to love someone else, you need to love yourself first. Oh, there are degrees – narcissism is just as big a problem as self-loathing – but you need to see that there is something inside you worth loving before you can accept the love of someone else. Otherwise, how can you believe “I love you” when he says it? They are only words, after all.

I don't go searching for themes in my books, but they always find me. Feel free to simply enjoy Madison's Song, without looking for deeper meaning. Or think about the importance of learning to love yourself – even if it's difficult to achieve.

Christine Amsden has been writing fantasy and science fiction for as long as she can remember. She loves to write and it is her dream that others will be inspired by this love and by her stories. Speculative fiction is fun, magical, and imaginative but great speculative fiction is about real people defining themselves through extraordinary situations. Christine writes primarily about people and relationships, and it is in this way that she strives to make science fiction and fantasy meaningful for everyone.

At the age of 16, Christine was diagnosed with Stargardt’s Disease, a condition that effects the retina and causes a loss of central vision. She is now legally blind, but has not let this slow her down or get in the way of her dreams. In addition to writing, Christine teaches workshops on writing at Savvy Authors. She also does some freelance editing work. Christine currently lives in the Kansas City area with her husband, Austin, who has been her biggest fan and the key to her success.
