Title: I Asked My Father
Author: Dorothy Rice, R.N.
Publisher: iUniverse
Genre: Religion
  Format: Ebook

This is a small book of poetry. It was written while the author was close to death from Lupus. Why, then, does pain inspire, and inspiration produce fruits to uplift and comfort. God only knows. But there is knowing here and insights only the heart knows through suffering. If you are suffering, or know someone who is, you may find these poems a salve and solution to why good people have to suffer. For, as the author once said, "The question is not why bad things happen to good people, but why good things happen to bad people; namely, why did Jesus came for me?"

Meet the Author:
Dr. Charles Rice is the husband of Dorothy Rice, R.N. He is a clinical psychologist and Dorothy still helps him in helping couples and families. She is the author of this, small, book of poetry which she wrote when very ill with Lupus before God healed her. Dorothy and I have two grown daughters and one grandson all living near us in Boise, Idaho.

Publisher: AuthorHouse

Genre: Fiction

The text of this book has been written for children in the range nine to fourteen, maybe older. Possibly it is of interest for slow readers and boys at pre-teenage who need absorbing stories. The subject matter covers adult affairs for children, not excluding greed, jealousy and mention of crime and drugs. One story depicts girls and boys together. But no sexual content. On that, the book could be seen as rather subdued. there are some who might regard it as slightly old-fashioned.

Betting on My Novel by Chris Delyani, author of You Are Here

Inside the Book:
You Are Here
Title: You Are Here
Author: Chris Delyani
Publisher: iUniverse
Genre: Romance
Format: Ebook/Paperback

All Peter Bankston ever wanted to do was paint.

An aspiring painter, Peter scratches out a pauper’s living in San Francisco, wanting nothing more than to be left alone. Instead, he finds himself getting involved with not one but two very different men.

Like Peter, getting involved with another man is the last thing on Nick Katsaris’s mind. Smart, handsome, and good-humored, Nick’s done more than just survive—he’s positively thriving in San Francisco. But when he meets Peter, what begins as fun and games quickly turns into a game he can’t control.

Miles Bettencourt’s days are filled with longing. For him, San Francisco is haunted by Stuart, his missing ex-lover. Desperate to win him back, Miles wanders the streets in the hope of running into Stuart again. Instead, he runs into Peter—the one man who might hold the key to what Miles is looking for.

These three gay men soon form one very unlikely love triangle. Sometimes, when people break apart and then come together, they learn that discovering that where you are is the key to knowing who you are.

Betting on My Novel
As I wrapped up the final draft of my novel You Are Here in January 2012, I faced a difficult question. What should I do next? I had devoted many years to the writing of You Are Here, and suddenly I was staring at a void—an endless march of days where I had nothing to work toward, nothing to write about. Not to write seemed a dead option. And yet I didn’t know what to write.
Then I read in the newspaper about a website called StickK.com. As stated on its website, StickK is a “free goal-setting platform created by behavioral economists at Yale University.” It’s designed to help anyone with a goal—quitting smoking, to play the guitar, to write a novel, anything—achieve that goal. The premise is simple: it forces users to define a goal, to establish a timeline for achieving it, and to put something at stake, for example a money wager, in the event the goal is not reached.
Who would be paid the money wager? It could be anyone the user selects, but the most effective payee is someone or an organization that you absolutely hated. Imagine making a public bet to quit smoking, or else fork over a hundred dollars to your worst enemy. Wouldn’t you do anything to quit smoking?
So that’s what I did. Instead of paying my money over to a person, I chose something worse: the anti-gay marriage charity the National Organization of Marriage. I’m strongly in favor of marriage equality (hell, I’m married to a guy) and so are all of my friends. So I made sure to tell everyone that I’d have the first draft of my third novel written in 100 days, or else a hundred dollars would go to the National Organization of Marriage. I wrote the draft in 90.
Mind you, it took me a lot longer than 100 days to whip the manuscript into presentable shape. But it didn’t matter that the draft was a mess. Drafts are supposed to be a mess. The draft had characters, conflict, and most importantly, a beginning, a middle, and an end. It was good enough to call a draft.

So if you feel writer’s block coming on, consider putting a little money down to unblock it. I couldn’t believe how fast my pen could move in the face of a looming deadline.

Captain Bancroft couldn’t believe this resort. The beaches were pristine. The rooms were comfortable. Everything was so relaxing. The only area off limits was the northern beaches and an area they called the trench. He asked a Mr. Jones why. Mr. Jones told him that since he was head of security. He would take him out to the cliffs and show him the reason. While out there they saw a large sea bird flying over the water. That was when a large shark leaped from the water and snatched it from the air. Mr. Jones pointed out that is why the northern beaches and the trench were off limits. Bancroft decided that was a good reason. The rest of the crew was just having a good time. Mrs. Svedberg ran the resort like a general. The service staff seemed happy, despite the fact that she seemed demanding to work for. He also was confused by the large canus that seemed to have free run of the island. Till he was told they were part of the security detail. Yet, he liked what he saw. These Maxumus were good at what they did. Bancroft decided he was a lucky bear. At the very least his life would probably never be boring. He was going to be right.

Charlotte McAntic spent her thirties, forties, and even fifties in peace and harmony aligning her marriage, mortgage, careers, and children. Unfortunately, the only thing Pud is eying is the next fairway. Knowing there is more to savor in retirement than silver-hair shampoos, senior discounts, and hernia surgery, Charli embarks on a quest to do whatever it takes to spend retirement in the embrace of the man she loves. But is it too late for happily ever after? In this humorous novel, a high-energy wife and her solid guy must learn to adjust to a new chapter in their lives and find their way back into each other's hearts after their retirement begins with a jolt.

The Interview

Who or what is the inspiration behind the book?

My book series is a tribute to my fellow baby boomers. We started our adventures in the youthful excitement and promise of the dawning of the age Aquarius. We didn’t trust anyone over the age of 30 and yet, years later, here we are, entering the new life of retirement. A life that may involve grey hair and creaking joints, but we still have that streak of adventure in us! I want us all to thrive in retirement!

Is this your first published book and if so, can you tell us your experiences in finding a publisher for it?

Yes, The Golden Age of Charli-RSVP is my first published book. My writing journey started when I decided to finally try to write what I called “a book-length document.” As I wrote, I began to feel more positive about my product. One day, while I was using the online thesaurus, an ad popped up- “Are you writing a book?” “Yes… YES!” I shouted. I clicked the link and soon received a call from a consultant at iUniverse. After a long discussion and plenty of questions from me, I chose iUniverse because they are a hybrid self-publisher. They offer a large team of professionals and services- all types of editing, cover design, marketing and promotion. This was the best of both worlds for me- I could move forward and achieve my publishing dream, but have access to all the services I would need to produce a high quality project.

Where do you live and if I were coming to town, where would we go to talk books?

I live south of Cleveland, Ohio and let’s meet for happy hour at the local wine and steak place. Or we could go for walk at the new walking trial with the dog.

When you’re not writing, what do you do to relax and have fun?

I think about writing? I keep those little hotel note pads and pens all over, so I can jot down ideas. When I am not writing, I like fine dining and wine, and I like to cook. The dog enjoys walking me. My husband and I cheer our local NBA team. I enjoy lounging by gorgeous bodies…of water.

Do you make a living off your books or do you have another job?

I am retired and I love the whole writing journey.
